Hello Bedford Troop 194,

We’d like to invite you to join us. The following is some information about Philmont. My daughter is in venturing crew 1775 of Lexington. I submitted a lottery for Philmont 2018 and won a 12 day trek. There is enough room for 2 groups. It looks like we’ll have plenty of room to add some scouts from other troops, so this will be a co-ed boy scout/venture crew expedition. Once we have all the attendees, we’ll have a couple meetings to plan and you all will be part of one team…to give input, plan t-shirts, meals, packing lists etc. This is a great opportunity since not all scouts attend Philmont during their scouting careers.

If anyone from Troop 194 is interested, please let me know asap (575)442-2164 or Little0271@aol.com. We’ll need to submit our first deposit of $100.00 each participant on Jan 30th. Since we are opening up the invitation for other troops from Bedford and Lexington, it will be first come basis.

This is the email I submitted a month ago. So far we have 5 adults(including myself) and 5 scouts.

Well behold! We won a slot! The 12 day expedition is for June 27, 2018 until July 9, 2018. Most likely we will need a couple days prior and after for travel. The reservation is for 16 youth and 8 adults (2 crews). If we do not have enough participants, we can extend an invitation to other scouts in local troops.

Here’s the pertinent info:

Philmont scout ranch is in New Mexico.

Cost is $895 per participant.

* This does not include plane fare, hot balloon fare, or food for horses (however we decide to travel from MA). We would leave a couple days before the trek to attend prep courses at the ranch.

A $100 per participant non-refundable, non-transferable reservation fee is DUE Jan 30, 2017 (note the date is next month).

We would need to collect the fee soon to ensure reservation is kept. They will automatically cancel the reservation if not received by the deadline.

Subsequent payments will be needed per participant over the next 10-15 months. The schedule is:

$397.50 per participant by 10/1/2017

$397.50 per participant by 3/1/2018

2018 Philmont youth participants must be 14 years of age on date of arrival OR have completed the eighth grade and be at least 13 prior to participation. Also, each crew (7-12 participants) must have a majority of youth and is limited to a maximum of four (4) adults over 21 years of age.
