Troop 194 is active throughout the year. Among our most popular activities are:
Camping: Our Troop camps several times a year in areas such as the Blue Hills of Massachusetts, the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and even right here in Bedford. Each June, we join Troops from around the state for the American Legion Camporee in Gardner, MA. In 2019 Troop 194 won 1st place in the annual Camporee, with special thanks to our Webelos guests from Pack 194. Camping trips usually depart at 6:00pm on Friday, and return to Bedford around noon on Sunday.
Hiking & Biking: Each year, we hike or bike trails around Massachusetts, including the Isaac Davis Trail from Acton to Concord, the Spirit of ’76 Trail in Marblehead, and our own Bedford Flag Trail. Hikes often include backpacking and overnight campouts.
Citizenship & Community Service: Citizenship and community service are core values of Scouting. Our Troop regularly participates in civic activities, including Bedford Day; Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, and Flag Day observances; Beautify Bedford Day; and other projects to serve our community and our charter organization, American Legion Anthony-Hunt-Hamilton Post 221.
Summers in Troop 194: Troop 194 attends summer camp every year. Beginning in 2020, the troop spends a week at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Paxton, Mass.. Boys have fun outside, earn merit badges, and enjoy camp songs and shenanigans. Troop 194 also hosts a special week-long August trip for scouts that have been especially active in the troop during the previous year.
Special Trips: Every four years, our troop has an opportunity to attend the one-week National Scout Jamboree held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, covering 10,600 acres in West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River area. The next National Jamboree is scheduled for the summer of 2021. In addition, our Troop has traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and even Hawaii!
