How to Join

Troop 194 is inclusive and welcomes new members, including transfers from other units, throughout the year. Prospective members and parents should contact the Scoutmaster with questions about our program, or visit us at a weekly Troop meeting to see what we are all about. Troop meetings are held most Tuesday evenings during the school year at American Legion Post 221, 357 Great Road, Bedford. Please visit our troop calendar for a detailed meeting schedule.

Eligibility: Boy Scouts is open to boys from ages 11-17. While most boys join during the sixth grade, some begin in March of the fifth grade after “crossing over” from the Webelos program of Cub Scouts. You do not need to have been a Cub Scout or a Webelos Scout to become a Boy Scout.

The troop does not discriminate, and strives to be inclusive. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact the Scoutmaster.

Parents of boys in kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to consider Cub Scout Pack 194. For more information, contact the Cubmaster.

Paperwork: In order to join Troop 194 as either a youth member or as an adult, you’ll need to complete some paperwork and pay annual dues. Please contact Committee Chair Mr. Allan Coady for the necessary forms and information. Financial hardship will not be a barrier to a scout joining the troop.

Communications: Email is our primary means of communication outside of meetings. Once you are a member, you will be given a set of email addresses: one for the Scout and one for each parent. During the school year, parents and Scouts typically receive a weekly update email and periodic email newsletters. News is also posted on our Troop Facebook page.

Gear: Upon joining, a scout will be given a Scout Handbook by the troop–a reference book that covers the scout priorities, basic skills, and requirements and a log for advancements. Visit the Uniforms & Gear page for more information about required and recommended gear.
